LICSF Mourns the Passing of Alan R. Finkelstein
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 1, 2024) – The Long Island Caddie Scholarship Fund mourns the passing of former Long Island Golf Association President and LICSF Board Member, Alan R. Finkelstein. Alan was a well-respected leader in golf on Long Island and served as LIGA President from 2013-14. He was an active LICSF board member since 2000.
Alan was a competitive amateur golfer throughout his life. He won the LIGA Boys’ Championship in 1958 and went on to play at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a two-time club champion at The Woodmere Club and Glen Head Country Club.
His love and passion for the game led him to give back through his volunteer roles. He was a member of the Metropolitan Golf Association’s advisory committee. He captained the LIGA’s Stoddard Cup team for more than a decade, leading the Long Island team in competition against the Westchester Golf Association and the New Jersey Golf Association.
Alan received the LIGA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2019 to honor his lifelong commitment to the game of golf on Long Island. Alan will be missed by all those who knew his service to the game. We offer our condolences to his wife, Susan, children, and grandchildren.
Donations in Alan’s memory may be made to the Long Island Caddie Scholarship Fund.
